ON AIR – BBC RADIO STOKE 50th ANNIVERSARY

IMG_4290Shine in Media attended the Staffordshire Film Archive’s latest showing. BBC Radio Stoke began broadcasting on March 14th 1968 as BBC Radio Stoke-on-Trent. The celebration showed archive footage of the station in operation from day 1 – featuring film of the pioneer presenters and staff in the studios and streets, with David Harding, Andy Riddler, Jo Hall, Gordon Astley, Mike Stephens, Tony Inchley, Aarvon Roberts, Bill Humphries and more. This was enhanced with contributions and reminiscences from early broadcasters including John Abberley, Geoff Lawrence, John Fox, Terry Walsh and Simon Penfold.

It charted the progress from the first 2-year “experiment`” funded by the City Council in the late1960s into the early 1970s, and see Radio Stoke expanding and getting involved in local issues – with a special feature on their coverage of the fight to stop the closure of Shelton Bar steelworks in 1973.
